Sabrina

Her being the oldest, I have more memories of her.  I went into labor watching a show on TV called the first Nine Months Are The Hardest.  We had to call grandma to take us to the hospital as we didn't have a car.  She took us there.  I didn't know that grandma was hemorrhaging while I was in labor and wouldn't go to the ER until I had delivered.  Fortunately for me and her, I had a relatively short labor for a first timer.

As Sabrina was coming into the world she let out a big scream.  The doctor said I don't know what sex it is yet, but it has alot to say.  When they laid her on my tummy on the sterile drape.  I just stared at her perfect little body.  I thought about her long fingers.  It was all I could do to keep from touching her.  They had strick rules back then.  In fact, her Dad wasn't allowed in to see the birth.

On the way into the hospital, her Dad and I were still discussing the name if it was a girl.  I wanted Dena Jane and he wanted Sabrina Marie.  I guess you can figure out who won that one.

I breast feed her in the hospital.  She like all of you turned yellow on her second day of life.  At one of her night feedings, the nurse didn't look at my name band first and was handing me a baby to nurse.  I told the nurse that wasn't my baby.  She said are you sure.  Yep this one is pink mine is yellow.  Then she looked and my band.  She went back to the nursery and returned with Sabrina.  She checked my band first this time.  Turned out,  the other baby belonged to lady on the other side of the room.  LOL LOL

Grandma was admitted to the hospital right after Sabrina's birth.  She had 3 pints of blood I believe.  The hospital wouldn't let us talk to each other without the doctors permission.  We were on the same floor even.

I left the hospital with Sabrina after 3 days.  Grandma stayed in the hospital.  I went to their house to recover.  Right, Peggy was only 7 at the time.  It was hectic.  So after 1 day I decided to go to our own house.  I got more rest there.  Grandpa had a birthday around this time.  He had to make his own birthday cake.  He misspelled Happy Birthday.  LOL LOL

Sabrina was born in the same hospital as Robert, Robin, and Valerie.

The hospital was in Covina.  We lived in Covina.  Grandma and Grandpa lived in Azusa.  Your Dad was working for the Southern Pacific Railroad at the time.
